In a move to promote health and development in Nigeria, a new health-focused radio station, WASH 94.9 FM, has officially launched in Lagos.
CEO of the station, Mr. Solomon Aizenoje, while speaking during the unveiling of the station at the weekend said WASH FM aims to leverage the power of radio to disseminate critical health information and promote wellness as a foundation for sustainable development.
Aizenoje emphasized that health is central to any nation’s progress, stating, “You cannot create wealth if you are unhealthy. This is why we have decided to use health as a tool to drive our quest for development in Nigeria.
“WASH 94.9 FM is dedicated to providing accurate health information, addressing challenges faced by people with both major and minor health issues.
“The station’s goal is to empower Nigerians to make informed decisions about their health, thereby contributing to the overall well-being of society.
“With a diverse range of programming targeting various demographics, the station aims to engage everyone, from children to the elderly.
“Our Flagship programs like “Talk to a Doctor” connect listeners with medical professionals both locally and abroad, offering expert advice and practical health solutions.”
Aizenoje noted that the show has already garnered significant engagement, with positive responses from both listeners and doctors.
According to him, “The station’s content will address numerous health-related concerns, including the dangers of alternative medications, promoting clarity between orthodox and non-orthodox treatments, and ensuring that listeners can access reliable, fact-based medical advice.
“Although currently broadcasting within Lagos, WASH 94.9 FM has ambitious plans to extend its reach to rural areas and other regions of Nigeria in the future.” Aizenoje expressed optimism about expanding the station’s footprint, driven by a clear vision of using health awareness to foster national development.
“We’re partnering with organizations like the Ministry of Health to spread important messages such as cervical cancer prevention. Through awareness campaigns, we aim to encourage early screening and vaccination, helping people avoid life-threatening diseases.
“For young people, we use music and entertainment to get their attention and pass on critical health messages. For older listeners, we play nostalgic music that lifts their spirits, while sharing health tips that resonate with them,” Aizenoje said.
Also speaking, the station’s directors, including Mr. Alex Alao, shares the vision of a healthier Nigeria leading to national development.
He said: “We want to reach everyone, those who are healthy and those who are not. Our goal is to ensure that everyone has the tools they need to maintain or improve their health.”
