The Delta State Legislature staff, represented by the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), have initiated an indefinite strike.
The workers are protesting the governor’s alleged failure to fulfill key campaign promises, notably the implementation of the Staff Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS).
Despite Governor Oborevwori’s pledge to implement CONLESS upon assuming office, the promise remains unfulfilled a year later, causing disappointment and frustration among the assembly staff.
Prior to the strike, the staff held a meeting and issued a communique addressed to the Speaker of the House of Assembly, outlining their grievances and demands.
The communique highlighted the delay in implementing financial autonomy, CONLESS payment, and other legislative issues, expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of progress by the committee established to address these matters.
